This edition was published to coincide with the release of King Vidor's feature film (1956) starring Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda and Mel Ferrer. The promotional bands feature three stills from the movie. Tolstoy's 'War and Peace' was first issued in Everyman's Library in 1911 in the anonymous translation of 1886; in 1932 the translation was checked throughout, passages which had been omitted were restored and certain defects of style corrected. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Everyman's Library, vols., 525, 526, 527; Hoppe, p.375; Seymour pp.270-1.
