THE AUTHOR'S SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY TO HAWTHORN LESLIE & CO, BUILDERS OF HMS PATHFINDER. This is the author's vividly-written tribute to two famous destroyers in which he served and to whom the book is dedicated. HMS FORTUNE (pennant H70) served in Norway, the Mediterranean (Force H; Dakar; Malta) and suBsequently in the Far East (Indian Ocean; Madagascar) before transfer to the RCN as HMCS SASKATCHEWAN. HMS PATHFINDER (pennant G10) served first in the Mediterranean (sinking of three U-boats; survivors of STRATHALLAN; PEDESTAL; TORCH) and subsequently in the Far East where she was mortally wounded in Japanese air attack. PATHFINDER was built in Hawthorn Leslie's Hebburn yard on Tyneside, hence the author's inscription 'in gratitude for a fine ship'. A UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY. Enser p.125; Law 0689.
