The set comprises Vol. I:1914-1916 [1936]; Vol. II: 1916-1918 [1937]; Vol. III: Supplementary Volume [1938]. Swinton's stupendous photographic survey of the Great War was the first major work to employ the 'before and after photographs' technique subsequently developed into a regular format by Winston Ramsey and the 'After the Battle' team.
