8vo., Fourth Impression, with portrait frontispiece and plates; blue cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper.
Published four months after the first edition. The harrowing yet uplifting story of SOE agent Wing-Commander Forest Yeo-Thomas, code-named 'White Rabbit'. Parachuted into occupied France in early 1944 he was captured, arrested, and many times tortured to the point of death. After several attempts at escape he reached safety (astonishingly, from Buchenwald) in 1945 to serve as a witness at Nuremberg. Yeo-Thomas was awarded the George Cross and the French Legion d'Honneur. 'A gruesome sketch of Yeo-Thomas's career in SOE, prepared with the agent's help' (Foot). ALL EARLY PRINTINGS ARE SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.399 (recording the first edition); see Foot p.460.
