'No commander in history has written an account of his campaigns to match the vividness and value of Rommel's'. Hart was in no doubt about the responsibility of his task, the more so since much of this unique material had to be painstakingly reassembled from its various hiding-places safe from Hitler's eyes. Half a century later, the brilliance of Hart's achievement is undimmed. AN OUTSTANDING RECORD FROM ONE OF THE FINEST COMMANDERS OF THE WAR. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.374.
