White's Advertisement, pages ix and x. More particulars of the Family Tortoise follows after Letter XXVI of the Antiquities. The Poem 'Say what impels' appears at the end of Letter XLI to Barrington. The peculiarities of a 'hollow, rocky lane' are well shown in the illustration facing p.11. Martin notes that a reviewer in 'Nature' said of this edition that it 'is free from editorial interference, and the result is a beautiful edition'. We see no reason to disagree. Martin, p.186.
