The chapters of the last (untitled) Aubrey novel left at O'Brian's death are presented both in printed version and as a facsimile of the manuscript. The latter extends several pages beyond the end of the typescript and includes marginal notes by the author. The striking endpapers display a wonderful gallery of the front panels of the dustwrappers of the much-loved Aubrey/Maturin series, together with a portrait of the author.
