THIS COPY WAS FORMERLY IN THE BIBLIOTECA SALOMONE, NICOSIA, AND BEARS ITS 1911 BOOKPLATE ON FRONT PASTE-DOWN WITH NEAT STAMPS ON AVVERTIMENTO, INDRIZZO, AND FIRST AND LAST LEAVES OF TEXT. First published in 1672, Pomey's 'Pomarium' is a notable addition to Jesuit pedagogy, committed to the Renaissance concept of the Latin language as a 'garden' requiring continuous cultivation and refinement. Toscano's edition, among the first of several eighteenth-century versions, is widely regarded as its finest manifestation, effectively combining phrasebook and dictionary adapted to the Italian language, with an index of Italian words rendered in Latin. Palazzo Salomone, at Nicosia in Sicily, continues to house a renowned private collection of rare and early works. EXTREMELY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
