The German edition was first published anonymously in Lausanne earlier in the same year. Written by pacifist Richard Grelling, this is a scathing attack upon the political and military leadership of Germany that led to the outbreak of WWI. Grelling takes his title from the infamous Zola letter of the Dreyfus scandal some two decades previously. The 'Germany Awake!' of the first chapter became the totemic 'Deutschland Erwache!' of Hitler's Reich. Scarce in this condition. Enser, p.245.
