Sm. 8vo., Second Edition, neat contemporary signature on front free endpaper; blue cloth, backstrip lettered in black, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter with minor loss (just affecting lettering) at head of backstrip and front panel.
The second edition is revised and extended, following the stand-down of the Home Guard in December 1945. This is Street's enthusiastic account of the Home Guard from inception to maturity, told through the eyes of the Sedgebury Wallop Platoon in the Wessex region. Due to wartime production constraints all subsequent issues omit the plates present in the first edition. ALL EARLY ISSUES ARE SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.214 (recording the first edition).
