Sold from an institution with small press-mark and label scar on front free endpaper. The wrappers have been neatly laminated. A near fine copy of the wire-stitched booklet 'UK Petroleum Industry Statistics relating to Consumption and Refinery Production 1956 and 1957' is loosely inserted. Arguably the scarcest of all Bates' work, this charmingly illustrated booklet commemorates the opening on 14 September 1951 of the Esso Refinery at Fawley in Hampshire. 'It is intended as a tribute to the vision, skill and energy of all those who helped to plan and build it' (Eads). A fresh, clean copy now safely preserved for the future. Rare. Eads, A73
