8vo., First UK Edition, on laid paper, with 28 plates on 16, and front and rear endpaper maps in blue; original cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in unclipped, mildly age-browned dustwrapper.
General Clay's careful yet gripping account of Germany's first four years after WWII. As Allied C-in-C, the author organised the Allied Control Council and outwitted Zhukov with the Berlin Airlift. He also discusses Nuremberg, the Black Market and the all-threatening Iron Curtain. Utterly absorbing. The UK edition, published in the same year as the US edition, is scarce, especially in this condition.
