4 vols., 8vo., Fourth Edition, with 2 coloured frontispieces, 2 engraved portrait frontispieces and 28 fine coloured plates (5 BY CURTIS FINELY COLOURED BY HAND), some very light offsetting from frontispieces to titles as often; elegantly and strongly bound in contemporary tan half calf, marbled boards, backs with five raised bands, second compartments with brown leather labels lettered and ruled in gilt, red sprinkled edges, brown endpapers, a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean, fresh set.
THIS SET WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF SIR EDMUND CURREY AND BEARS HIS NINETEENTH-CENTURY ENGRAVED ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE ON FRONT PASTE-DOWNS AND NEAT HOLOGRAPH SIGNATURE ON FRONTISPIECE RECTOS AND TITLES. The set comprises (as usual) Vol. I: fourth edition, 1822; Vol. II: third edition, 1823; Vol. III: first edition, 1825; Vol. IV: first edition, 1826. The five plates in first and second volumes are finely coloured by hand; the portraits of the authors are engraved by Fry after Howard and Masquerier respectively.
