4 vols., Elephant Folio, First Edition, with 2 coloured frontispieces (original captioned tissue guards present), titles in red and black with vignettes, 58 splendid coloured plates (all original captioned tissue guards present) and 935 fine monochrome photographs (many full-page) in the text, free endpapers (only) very lightly spotted; original red buckram, bevelled boards, upper boards blocked and lettered in gilt, gilt backs, gilt tops, uncut, a near fine set in publisher's binding.
The set comprises: The Age of Oak (1904), The Age of Walnut (1905), The Age of Mahogany (1906) and The Age of Satinwood (1908). The best illustrated and arguably the most important single history of English furniture, Macquoid has been several times reissued, notably by the original publisher in conjunction with the Medici Society in 1925 and 1938, but never with the same quality of reproduction as here. A splendid set of first editions which has significantly superior impressions of the plates. Please note that additional postage will be required for shipping outside the UK.
