Surely the definitive account of Fairbairn's pre-war service with the Shanghai Municipal Police, in which arduous context he developed his 'defendu' system of self-defence and compiled the immensely influential self-defence manuals now forever linked to his name. Indeed, it was in the pages of 'Scientific Self-Defence' (1931) that the immortal Fairbairn-Sykes Knife was born. The 'Commando Knife', as it was later known, was standard issue for British and some Allied Special Forces throughout WWII, and became one of the iconic hand weapons of the conflict. EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE.
