Classic account of Caskie's French escape line in WWII. Ejected from his position as Minister of the Scottish Kirk in Paris, he relocated to Marseilles where he turned the British Seamen's Mission into a vital link in the chain for escaping POWs and soldiers returning from Dunkirk. He was eventually denounced (by a British traitor), captured and passed through seven prisons including the infamous 'Villa Lynwood' in Nice where was held at the same time as Odette Hallowes. He was sentenced to death by the Gestapo but saved from execution by a German padre. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.396.
