This work, which deserves wider recognition, is arguably one of the best of the pre-War travellers' guides to its subject. Each individual location is placed in its architectural and clerical context in a readable manner while the glossary is charmingly illustrated and surprisingly compendious. The 10 full-page illustrations of key architectural features act as a valuable ready reference, a precursor of the achievements of Pevsner and his school yet to come. The author was President of Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society 1929-1931.
