Macmillan's Library Edition (1949-1952) uses the large and pleasing type of the definitive Wessex Edition (1912-1931}. It is the most elegant of the post-war collected editions, and it is to be regretted that it does not include the volumes of verse. The endpaper map, 'The Wessex of the Novels and Poems', engraved by Emery Walker, is taken from the drawing made by Hardy himself.
