Adam and Charles Black’s colour plate books were published from 1901 onwards, bringing the wider world and its wonders into Edwardian homes at a time when travel overseas was both difficult and expensive. For the first time, large numbers of colour plates were made available at modest prices and the numerous series were immediate successes.
